CGC Joins National Agriculture Coalition in Calling for Focused Federal Action to Drive Economic Growth
The Canada Grains Council is proud to stand alongside a coalition of national agricultural organizations calling on Prime Minister Mark Carney to recognize agriculture and agri-food as a core pillar of Canada’s economic strategy.
Our message is clear: to unlock the full potential of agriculture as a driver of economic growth, food security, and climate resilience, the Government of Canada must take targeted action in four key areas:
- Create a focused plan for economic growth in the agriculture sector and to support food security: Establish a focused plan for agricultural growth—one that includes Indigenous agriculture and sets clear targets for production, investment, value-added processing, exports, innovation, and a stable labour supply.
- Ensure regulations support a growth agenda: Align the mandates of key regulatory agencies with Canada’s food security and competitiveness goals, while reducing regulatory burdens and creating a more attractive environment for innovation and investment.
- Prioritize transportation and trade infrastructure that support agriculture: to support reliable market access and uphold Canada’s reputation as a dependable global supplier.
- Modernize risk management tools: Ensure that business risk management programs are inclusive and responsive to evolving climate and market conditions, and that they offer meaningful risk mitigation for producers. Agriculture is ready to lead. We urge the federal government to act on these recommendations.
